Google Translate is Life

If you have not discovered it yet, Google translate is pretty much the best thing ever. You can do so many things with it that are either productive or just plain amusing such as:

Sound smart by speaking in a different language. Impress your friends by simply translating a word or phrase into some other language and slipping it into everyday conversation. When your co-conversationers ask what in the world you just said, casually explain that it means this in this language. You'll sound smart and well-educated.

Be grammatically correct. If you've got a project due in French, Spanish or Elvish, no sweat, Google translate is actually pretty smart. I'm not saying it will, without fail, be exactly and utterly perfect every single time you use it but it sure is helpful by giving you different suggestions and all that. (Something to note is that I'm very sure that they don't offer translations for the Elf language yet. Or that it's taught in school. But you never know so I just kind of threw that in there.)

Play the Translating Game. If you have never tried this out, you don't know what you're missing. Basically, what you do is translate a word or sentence into a random other language, then translate whatever you got from that into another language and so on and so forth. By the time you go back to English, it will be completely different and quite hilarious.
For example, I translated "I have two cats, named Oreo and Gingersnap, who like to chase balls of fluff around the house and are super crazy" to Japanese, got a whole bunch of Japanese characters and, when I translated it back to English, I got "My name is super crazy like a ball of fluff to chase around the house and Gingersnap Oreos have two cats." Crazy, right? You can do even more languages to mess it up even more.
Sometimes you stumble on something so random like when I translated "fox" into Polish, got "lis", translated that back into English and got "November".
This is great to do when you're bored. Kills time instantly.

Make the voice that reads it out speak to people. This really creeps people out when you turn up the volume really loud and make the voice say something random. They don't know where it's coming from and it isn't a voice they recognize. It's really funny to watch their reactions! The only downside is that there is a limit to the amount of words you can make it say. But you can just feed the voice short sentences and then the sky's the limit!

The above reasons are why I think all you need to live a fulfilling life is Google translate.

Deja Vu Question

I have got a burning question that needs answering!

So my friend and I had a little disagreement over what "experiencing deja vu" actually is. We both had different ideas and they're both pretty valid so now I am just confused and that is not a happy place to be.

Is the correct version of deja vu:
1) It's when you've actually had a similar situation happen to you twice and it feels like it's the first one happening all over again during the second time.
2) It's just your brain playing tricks on you where you think the situation you're in at that moment has already happened down to the smallest of the small details and you are utterly convinced that everything happen the exact same way but in reality it's just you making it up.
3) Something entirely different that you will helpfully enlighten me on in the comments.

Anything you guys say would be very much appreciated!

UNRELATED COMMENT QUESTION: What is your favourite episode of Arthur? I'll tell you mine, you only need to ask :)

Top 10 Favourite Smells

Warning: some may be a little weird.

1. Rain.
2. Clean sheets.
3. Lightly toasted marshmallows.
4. Sharpie.
5. Campfire.
6. Vanilla.
7. Citrus.
8. Unpolluted air.
9. Grass.
10. Purell.

I wonder what would happen if I came across a campfire in unpolluted air where there was grass and it had just rained and there were people lightly toasting marshmallows to eat with some vanilla and citrus after having done their laundry, colour with Sharpie and sanitized their hands.

Those are them. What are yours?

Missing: Toothepaste

Just now, a catastrophe struck.

We ran out of toothpaste.

Does that even happen in this day and age? We normally have a drawer absolutely stacked with extra toothpaste and then all the members of our family have their own tube. I guess we were all running out at the same time and didn't think that there wasn't any toothpaste in the replenishing drawer of destiny so we continued along our merry way of usage of toothpaste and ran out.

Like, if you had a toothpaste detector, you would not find a single drop of toothpaste EXCEPT for this random half finished tester biodegradable toothpaste I discovered just sitting under the sink cabinet. It pretty much saved the day until we could get to a store and buy a buttload of toothpaste slash like 4 tubes.

This is my story.
How wasteful

I guess the moral is to know the true value of toothpaste before it's too late.

Twilight Grocery Shopping

Last night I commented to my mother how we needed some items of food for me to properly pack my lunch the next day. She absentmindedly told me to get some money and walk to the grocery store for all of it. "This is totally normal. I help around the house with activities such as grocery shopping too." you may say. The thing is, this was at 9:30 at night. I don't think she was fully awake or else she would have made me wait until tomorrow afternoon but I didn't want to have a lame lunch so I grabbed my sister and we were out the door.

The grocery store is a short 7 minute walk from our house and we amused ourselves by being dressed in our pyjamas and singing along to my sister's ipod.

Please note that she was the one who had the earphones in. I was just singing from what I could get from her singing so I was usually a beat off or didn't know where we were since she was mumbling the melody due to LACK of MEMORIZATION SKILLZ. We were listening to the silly song Bellybutton from VeggieTales and when it got to the part where the caterpillar raps, I completely aced it. We were a sight to behold, skipping through a parking lot rapping about "umbilical equivocals".

Anyways, we got the groceries and went along our merry way, all the while probably getting weird looks from the adults who were also there because since when do two teenage girls go to the store at nighttime to buy healthy stuff like carrots. (Well, we also bought ice cream but that is beside the point.) No one else was talking but that didn't stop us from carrying on our conversation about how non-2012 a Chicken Soup for the Soul book cover looked.

And that was the extent of our close-to-midnight adventure. I think we should do it more often. It was the right time of night that everything was slightly silly and we weren't tired enough to be zombies.

Outpost Review

cover could've been better.
I don't know why this series isn't as popular as all the other dystopian books like The Hunger Games or Divergent! It is pretty original and really pulls you in. It's also not as fat (meaning around 350 pages) as the previously mentioned books so it's a nice read for people who don't like too many pages.

INFO
Title: Outpost
Author: Ann Aguirre
Previous Book in Series: Enclave
Goodreads Summary:
Deuce’s whole world has changed. Down below, she was considered an adult. Now, topside in a town called Salvation, she’s a brat in need of training in the eyes of the townsfolk. She doesn’t fit in with the other girls: Deuce only knows how to fight.
To make matters worse, her Hunter partner, Fade, keeps Deuce at a distance. Her feelings for Fade haven’t changed, but he seems not to want her around anymore. Confused and lonely, she starts looking for a way out.
Deuce signs up to serve in the summer patrols—those who make sure the planters can work the fields without danger. It should be routine, but things have been changing on the surface, just as they did below ground. The Freaks have grown smarter. They’re watching. Waiting. Planning. The monsters don’t intend to let Salvation survive, and it may take a girl like Deuce to turn back the tide.
I really, really enjoyed this book. It was never slow, you got all the intenseness from the beginning and it kept you hooked until the end. Where it obviously leaves you with a minor cliffhanger.

Regarding the plot, I was a little sad for Deuce and Fade and everyone that things weren't calm for a long while before the storyline got more interesting but what kind of book would that have been.

Regarding the characters, I just love Deuce so much. I am her, pretty much. Minus the lack of knowledge surrounding normal human things and the fighting ability. But her determination to prove herself capable of anything a guy can do and to not be seen as weak is an attribute I have as well. I hate talking about feelings and things like that and don't do it often if I can help it.

Regarding the love triangle, I am kind of glad it is less of a thing than it could be. Deuce makes her choice and though she doubts herself, she's not one of those wishy-washy girls that can't decide between these two boys that normally she doesn't even deserve. (Except Deuce does deserve amazing guys.)

Regarding the fact that it is a second book and doesn't suck, I am pleasantly surprised! Even Insurgent didn't really meet my expectations and succumbed itself to second book syndrome but Outpost steered pretty clear of it! At the beginning, Deuce and Fade were a little distant and that was kind of annoying since authors tend to make the love interest not hang out as much because of some HUGE misunderstanding but they resolved their differences soon enough that I wasn't too put off. And the book did have some content as well, it wasn't just a huge lead-up to the third and final book; actual things happened. So I am pleased.

I really recommend this series! It deserves all the recognition of all the hot and popular books of the moment. And do tell me if you were ahead of the game and already know about this book or even if I have introduced you to something that you love/hate!

Currently...

...writing with an on screen keyboard.

And it's HARD I TELL YOU.

The keyboard of this laptop decided it wanted a day off and didn't tell me. Luckily I am a computer genius slash I discovered this by accident but there is the possibility to have a keyboard on the screen that you can click the letters with your mouse.

Although it's useful if you need to type and your keyboard is being difficult, it takes a painstakingly long time. I don't even know how I managed this.

Poll Results: Favourite Season

The results are in! I put a poll on the side bar asking what people's favourite season was and left it there for the duration of November.

Only 7 people voted. Whatever, at least they did. Hopefully the numbers will increase as time goes on!

I have to say, I am extremely shocked with the results. They were:
Spring: 0
Summer: 0
Autumn: 3
Winter: 4

You can't look at this and tell me you're not also surprised. I expected the autumn votes. Even though I am not into fall at all, with all the orange and cinnamon and pumpkins and layers of clothing and dying leaves and coldness, lots of other people are.

But winter? And enough votes that it actually wins? Did NOT see that coming. I expected spring and summer to be the more popular ones because the weather is actually nice out. Yes, winter brings certain winter activities but I didn't think it outweighed all the perks of summer.

I never cease to be amazed.

As for my favourite season, it's spring. Could be because I was born in it but seriously, all the plants are coming back to life, the weather is warming up, school is finishing up and everything just feels happier.

Congratz winter, people actually like you!

Secret Koala

So me and my group of friends (my group of friends and I?) have decided to do a gift exchange this Holiday Season because buying a present for every other person can get stressful both on the wallet and on the deciding process.

The thing is, we are an extremely diverse group, including Jewish, Jehovah's Witness, Atheist, Pagan, Muslim and then me rounding it out with Christian. And even though Santa has NO direct connections with Christianity, some people thought it was awkward to call it a Secret Santa.

So my very creative friend came up with the idea of calling it a Secret Koala. And we all agreed. Cause we're cool like that.

We drew names this afternoon and I got someone that I haven't known for very long so I don't really know what to get her. All I know is that she adores One Direction so I'm going to go for there. A good idea that smacked me when I was walking home from school was to bake something! No one can hate food.

Also regarding gift exchanges, I'm the kind of person that really wants to know who has me but really doesn't at the same time. So I always firmly tell everyone involved that even if they know who has me and even if I'm begging them to tell me that they should AVOID DOING SO AT ALL COSTS. I will always spoil any surprises for myself so it is up to other people to stop it.

It's a secret koala...

Uncommon Claustrophobia

If you probably haven't noticed yet, I'm weird. The things I'm really interested don't even cross the minds of other people and random things about me are just odd.

So when normal people who are claustrophobic hate being in small enclosed spaces, I hate wearing layers or zipping up my jacket. It's not that I'm scared of doing that, it's just that I can't handle it.

Seriously, if I'm wearing a shirt with a sweater, I dread putting my jacket on over top because I just feel like I have way too much on me in one place. Having three layers with a long sleeved shirt being the first layer pretty much kills me since it restricts my elbow movement. Even wearing an tank top under a slightly-too-low shirt is very annoying for me.

I legitimately wait until the last second in the fall to actually start wearing my jacket. I will freeze in just a sweater for as long as I can hold out until I resign myself to putting on that last layer. But even then, I won't zip it up unless there is a strong wind. My logic is that I have my sweater to keep me relatively warm so I won't need to close myself in with a zipper unless the wind is just cutting through me.

This is why I don't really like autumn or winter too much. Winter redeems itself with fun things you can do in snow and Christmas, at least, but all the clothing I have to wear just sucks.

My Lingo

Also Known As: Things I Say A Lot That The Average Person Doesn't.

^Do you know how annoying it is to capitalize everything? Never doing that again.

"Cool beans."

"This is true."

"*insert random adjective here* and a half."
ex) "That was massive and a half!

"Dood." as opposed to dude. They're different, trust me.

"Oh snap!"
which has turned into
"Snap, crackle, pop!"

"Sweet."

"Calm your muffins."

"Stop the car!"

"Awesomesauce."

Zombies are NOT my thing

I just finished reading the book This Is Not A Test by Courtney Summers and am terrified.

Goodreads summarizes it as: It’s the end of the world. Six students have taken cover in Cortege High but shelter is little comfort when the dead outside won’t stop pounding on the doors. One bite is all it takes to kill a person and bring them back as a monstrous version of their former self. To Sloane Price, that doesn’t sound so bad. Six months ago, her world collapsed and since then, she’s failed to find a reason to keep going. Now seems like the perfect time to give up. As Sloane eagerly waits for the barricades to fall, she’s forced to witness the apocalypse through the eyes of five people who actually want to live. But as the days crawl by, the motivations for survival change in startling ways and soon the group’s fate is determined less and less by what’s happening outside and more and more by the unpredictable and violent bids for life—and death—inside. When everything is gone, what do you hold on to?

The fact that they were so powerless against the zombies was terrifying and I was just sinking further and further into the couch as I read those scary parts.

I finished the book mainly because I wanted to know how they managed to get out of this situation but I did not enjoy scaring myself as I read. I do get adrenaline rushes from reading some scary books (Living life on the edge, I know.) but this was not my cup of tea.

The characters and all their problems and interactions were actually really good though so that made reading this a little less awful.

So I can't really say I recommend this book since I didn't really enjoy it but if you enjoy the good old zombie thriller that still manages to have some kissing in it, go for it.

Why I Hate Zombies

I guess I hate zombies because I don't understand them.

Like, maybe reanimated corpses could become a reality, at least in fictional books, with dark magic and whatnot. Like necromancer powers.

But the fact that this "disease" can be spread through being bitten by another zombie makes absolutely no sense. This virus kills you then brings you back to life where your sole purpose is to eat brains?

It's the brains part that kills me. WHY in the world would dead things want to eat brains? They are completely not any better than the rest of your body for nourishment which zombies actually don't need at all.

No sense is being made here. Someone come explain the idea of zombies to me and I will finally know true happiness.

Fonts

I love fonts. Whenever I have a project for school, I always obsess about the fonts I'm going to use and any layout details in general.

So, at this moment, I have decided that I don't like the font I've been using so far. This post is pretty much going to be me figuring out which one of the severely limited selection offered I like the most and will be using from here into the unforeseeable future.

Arial:
The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.
Courier:
The quick brown fox jumps over that lazy dog.
Georgia:
The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.
Helvetica:
The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.
Times:
The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.
Trebuchet:
The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.
Verdana:
The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.

Well this is an easy choice. I really don't like the sans serif fonts very much. They look like they're missing something. And Times is a little too small so Georgia it is! Get really for a whole new level of fonts!

Isn't this clever?

Job Update

I have amazing news! Remember a week ago when I talked about how I got my second interview at Chapters? Well, I got a call yesterday and it's official! I am now an employee at Chapters!

I literally could not stop smiling for the remainder of the day.

Right now I am filling out paperwork which should be boring but I don't even care because I am so happy that I can finally stop job hunting and that I work somewhere that I love.

The Perks of Watching The Perks of Being a Wallflower

So I have just recently watched the movie The Perks of Being a Wallflower. And my overall opinion of it is that it was pretty darn good!

A bit of background concerning myself and the movie: The movie is an adaptation from a book by the same name. I read it a while back, like 2007 or something and I have to admit, I didn't enjoy it back then. It's a more character-driven book and I mainly enjoy plot-driven books. It was a Slice of Life kind of book where nothing extremely exciting happened and the ending isn't really a resolution.

Side Note: The description that it's a "Slice of Life" kind of book was used by said friend's dad and I think it's just the most accurate thing on earth. I was silently having a moment of respect for how perfectly it fits this kind of book all the while carrying on normal conversation like a normal human being. You've got to be impressed by that. It takes a certain skill to be able to do that so gracefully.

Back to the present. It was really the casting that drew me to the movie. Logan Lerman has been a long favourite actor of mine since he's very good at it and doesn't hurt to look at. In the slightest. And then I was excited to see Emma Watson in something other than Harry Potter plus I also enjoyed her new haircut. And I have never seen a movie involving Ezra Miller but I have heard really good things about him. That was pretty much my reasoning plus my friend really wanted me to come see it with her so I obliged.

Stephen Chbosky is the author of the book and he also directed and wrote the screenplay for the movie. This was extremely evident because it stayed so true to the plot that even I remembered certain scenes from the book and I hadn't so much as thought of the book since I read it way back as a youngster. (Because the difference between youngster and not-youngster is 5 years. Write that down, it'll be on the test.)

I have to say that I really enjoyed the movie. Maybe only because it was a movie and it keeps you visually entertained plus you don't have to go through the effort of reading the words in the book. (Not that I think it sucks; it's just mentally easier to watch a movie.) But I think it did a pretty good job of bringing the book to life. Can I say that Logan played the perfect Charlie. His voice, his mannerisms were so ideal it was scary. I'm pretty sure a lot of the deep stuff went right over my head but I really liked the vibe the movie gave me. It covered a lot of stuff kids go through in high school so it could reach people in certain things like that and it also was extremely funny at parts. So yeah, I enjoyed it.
If you haven't noticed, I'm pretty all over the place in reviews. All you need to know is that this one is a positive one and you should go see it.

Side Note: The one thing that bugged me was that Charlie did not look like a niner (this is what I call grade 9's) at all. He was taller than Sam and it looked like he could sprout a full beard at any second.

NaNoWriMovember

Has your bookish friend suddenly gone into hibernation and whenever you see them there is a crazed glint in their eyes? Have some of your guy friends randomly decided they want to look similar to pedophiles regarding facial hair?

Well, if this is true and you have no idea why, then have I got an explanation for you.

Regarding your scraggly mustachioed fellow, he's probably participating in Movember! It's when people of the male gender do not shave their mustaches to raise money and awareness for prostate cancer.
I think it's a great idea because men are always happy to show off how much hair they can sprout from their face and it's a funny way to bring attention to something serious.

As for your bookish friend, they are probably participating in NaNoWriMo. It stands for National Novel Writing Month. This is when you begin writing a full-sized, 50 000+ word novel on the first of November and must complete it within the month. Then, with this hastily and sleep depriving novel finished, you can enter it into the official website and you just may win the contest!
It something that writers really enjoy because it really makes you focus on putting your thoughts onto paper and is a great way to be "discovered" as a new author since everyone is judged equally. (I hope.)

And that is what is up and popular this month.

Chapters, why must you play with my heart?

A little background info:
3 weeks ago today, I went in for an interview at Chapters. Working there is basically my dream job because books so I was super excited and had all my hopes up and everything. I felt that the interview went really well, I knew my stuff and didn't seem nervous on the outside. (Although on the inside it's a completely different story.) I figured I'd wait a week before actually expecting a callback since I went on the first day of a week full of interviews, according the the manager who spoke to me.
But, nothing. Eventually I accepted that I wouldn't get a callback and why did I get my hopes up so high since I'm not even an English major or anything so why would they pick me. (My thoughts are always run-on sentences. This is the most accurate I could make it.)

BUT THEN

THE MOST TWISTY PLOT TWIST OF ALL
it's a plot twist, ok?

I got a telephone call this afternoon. I thought nothing of it until I heard the voice of that very manager asking me to come back for my second interview in two days.

My reaction (after I had calmly answered in a calm and completely not uncalm fashion) was to start hyperventilating and smiling and just lay down on the floor for a while. Then I told everyone who would actually care and then I sent a quick thank you prayer up to God cause, seriously, those were some major strings he pulled.

I am literally so happy right now because I am one step closer to actually being employed and to boot it would hardly feel like work when it's basically helping people find awesome books and just shelving stuff. (Which I kind of enjoy.)

Me right now
The interview is on Wednesday so I shall keep you in the loop!

Audition Rant

I need to rant.

So I've been part of my church's worship team for perhaps 5 or 4 years. And it's all been swell. But now, they've decided that we need auditions for anyone to join it and to be fair everyone has to audition if they want to be a part of it, even the people who have been on it the entire time.
This is basically a way to get rid of the people that suck in the roundabout manner that doesn't involve the people in charge just having a simple talk with them.
I am not worried about not getting in, this is not the issue here. I just don't think we need to elite-ize this. To have the people that were good enough and the people that aren't. This is about the worship, not the performance. As long as the message gets through to the congregation, does it really matter if someone messes up sometimes or if the keyboard player is only playing simple chords?
Also, I actually don't have a clue who is going to be cut. Like, everyone who is on the team has musical talent or else they wouldn't feel confident enough to join. This is not like American Idol where you might become famous at the end of it or will get some TV time if you are ridiculous. You are working so that other people might having a pleasant experience and you don't do that unless you feel like you'd be good at it. So there basically is no point to doing this since the end result will be all the same people.
UNLESS some people get so annoyed (kinda like me) with this whole necessary process that they decide it's not worth it to audition and comply with this decision. So, in that case, you end up losing otherwise awesome parts of the team which, in turn, puts more pressure on the remaining people since you need to cover for the loss. And it's not like our team is massive and a half. We have enough to alternate each Sunday so that you get a break every second week. Who knows what it might turn in to.

Anyways, I'll be auditioning, since I actually like singing but I really don't understand this idea at all.

Capital N for Noooooooo

It's November now so I have to get into the habit of writing Nov. at the top of my paper instead of Oct. Very difficult stuff.

But the worst thing is that my handwriting is not especially friendly towards capital Ns. I tend to have very round writing but Ns are very sharp so there is no way for my to comfortably write one.

So yeah, one whole month of torture and then I'm good.

Not that I don't like November, it's my second favourite month since my half-birthday's in it and the weather is not like death yet.

Internet high five to the first person who can guess slash do basic math to figure out my birthday month!

All you can do is hope.

Halloween is pretty sweet with all the free candy you're getting, but it is always always always those fun sized little chocolate bars and bags of chips.

NEWS FLASH: Fun does not equal less.

What really makes your night is when you get a full sized chocolate bar. Like, thank you times a million and may you never step on a lego for your whole existence on earth if you are one of those houses that give out full sized candy bars. It is actually the best thing ever but doesn't happen very often.

So yeah, I wish you all luck tonight and hopefully you hit the jackpot in the size-of-your-candy department!

Fun size? You mean lame size!

I Love My School

Just a quick post to tell you the highlights of all the costumes people at my school wore today:

- Cheshire cat
- Zombie
- Taco
- Chef
- Dorothy, Tin Man, Cowardly Lion, Scarecrow
- Flapper
- Cave woman
- Mexican (borderline racist)
- Pimp
- Hipster Santa ("Halloween is too mainstream")
- Clark Kent (a ridiculously attractive English teacher did this complete with the superman shirt underneath)
- Robin (the girl's name was robin, too.)
- Esmeralda
- Snow White
- Audrey Hepburn
- The Doctor
- Mad scientist
- Sherlock
- Some students went as some teachers from our school
- Teletubbies
- Spock

So yeah, my day was epic and pretty much consisted of me looking around in awe at all the costumes. Of course, we had a million bunnies and cats but whatever.

Question: What were your favourite costumes that you saw today? Or at least what are your favourites from my list?

i'm a rebel

See how I connected the words in the title to how I wrote the title? I am rebelling against conventional grammar rules? Yes? Yes? Okay.

NOT THE POINT, it just needed to be pointed out.

I am of the delicate age of 17 where I am still considered a child at some moments, but not actually in others. So that brings us to the question of: Is It Acceptable For Me To Be Out Trick Or Treating?

First of all, I am totally going full out with my costume. (As you can read about in this post: http://thecontentsofmy-brain.blogspot.ca/2012/10/t-swizzle-for-halloween.html) I am not just slapping on a tiara and saying I'm a princess just so I can go and get free candy. I worked hard on it and I want to show off!
Secondly, I'm not stealing candy opportunities away from the little children. The people bought candy so that they could give it away on Halloween. I am helping them complete that task, pretty much.
And lastly, I don't think anyone is even going to question me going out since I am so short and look way younger than I actually am so who cares! I'm going for it!

And it will be awesome.

The Best Kind of Babysitting

You know what seriously is the best? Night babysitting. You get there around 7 and the kid(s) are either already asleep or your sole job is to send them into dreamland.

It rocks when they're already asleep because then you just get to chill in someone else's home on the off chance that the child wakes up. Most parents are super nice and offer you the run of their internet, TV and kitchen which is totally ok by me.

And when all you have to do is but them to bed, it's not bad at all. Speaking for myself here, I'm not that good at thinking up ways to entertain kids so unless they're the type with the overactive imagination that turns everything into a game or the quiet one that likes to amuse themselves I have to work hard to always keep the kid busy. That said, when I know that I need to get them in bed and sleeping, all I have to do is follow the steps to make sure that happens. We put pyjamas on, we brush our teeth, we read a story and then the light goes off. Sure, some kids don't want to sleep but it's easy to wear them out or just be firm about it.

Side Note: Another amazing thing when you are a babysitter is having the kids recognize you and love having you around. Seriously, them jumping around and hugging you when you arrive has to be the best welcome ever.

T Swizzle for Halloween

It's official. I am going as Taylor Swift for Halloween this year. I've gotten many comments that I look like Taylor Swift, mainly because I have blonde curly hair so I've decided to make the best of that!

Plus, her new album, RED, just came out recently so everyone is freshly obsessed with her. It just works perfectly.

Here's the plan (so that maybe you could join me!):
Make-up - Just use liquid eye liner on top of your upper lash line and continue it a little further to make little wings. Then put on mascara as per usual. Red lipstick is always a staple for Taylor making it easier for you to decide what you should wear on your lips!

Hair - If you're blonde, then lucky you! If you have any other colour sitting on your head, you can always buy a wig or just not care about that slight detail. But do wear it in one of the following styles. The controlled curls look that bounce freely around your face or the sleek straight look that is usually pulled back into a side ponytail. Either is pretty recognizable as a Thing That Taylor Swift Would Do.

Clothes - I always see Taylor wearing cute floral print dresses or anything that's polka dotted or striped. Her main colours are red, white and black but obviously she wears other colours like blue and green.

Shoes - Pair the rest of your outfit with cute shoes! Taylor usually wears either cowboy boots, flats, high heels or brown oxfords.

And there you have it! That's all there is to it.

I love being small enough that I can still trick or treat at 17.

Camp Memories

Wave Clouds

This is 100% for real. We were up on the hill and someone got all excited and pointed to the sky. The clouds were in this awe-inspiring wave pattern.

Random side thought this picture generated: For one week, we had an activity that was cloud-watching. About 30 kids signed up for it.

Previous Halloween Me

I am a pretty creative person. So Halloween has been a favourite holiday where I'm allowed to think of and create a really unique costume. Here are some past highlights:

Thing 2 - My best friend and I really wanted to do a pair costume and I think it was her mom that came up with Thing 1 and Thing 2 from The Cat in the Hat. It was actually perfect. We both wore all red and emblazoned our stomachs with felt depicting our title. Now for the best part: We both had long blonde hair which we temporarily dyed blue and frizzed up with hairspray. It was so much fun going to school like that!

Ms. Frizzle - It all started when I saw this particularly flamboyant dress that was in-your-face blue with flowers all over it. I bought it, added big plastic flower jewelry, dyed my hair red and BAM, the perfect Ms. Frizzle. At the time I didn't have a lizard stuffed animal (I may have acquired one since then though) but that would've so completed the outfit.

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe - I wasn't all of the above, don't worry. This was a family thing. My little sister was still in her adorable stage and happened to have a full body lion costume. With that taken care of, I got to show my evil side with white flowy stuff and tin foil as the White Witch. That left my poor mom to wear the refrigerator box which we covered in wood sticker stuff and even added old handles to over her head. It was definitely a hit for people who understood it.

Three Blind Mice - My aforementioned best friend plus another girl all went as the Three blind mice one year. We just wore grey, added mouse ears, sunglasses and canes. The awesome thing about "being blind" was that you could "accidentally" whack someone, say an annoying boy, with your cane and have a perfectly plausible alibi.

Right now I have the extreme urge to be Waldo for Halloween. I just think it'd be sweet and a half.

So, tell me what you think of the costumes I've done! ALSO, I really, extremely would love to hear what all y'all are going to be for Halloween. (I don't actually say "all y'all" in real life.)

My Ears Kind Of Love Me Right Now

This is me right now.
So I just added about 30 new songs to my ipod and am in heaven right now. I listen to music pretty much all the time - walking to and from school, while doing homework, when running, before going to bed, while I'm having conversations with other people - so the songs I have end up getting pretty overplayed after a while.

But since I'm a lazy person, I will jot down songs that I discover - on scraps of paper, on my hand, on the notes app in my phone, on my sister's forehead - but not take the time to find them and load them to my music listening device.

So I'll be going about my life, with music, obviously, and then my brain will be like "I NEED TO LISTEN TO THAT SONG THAT WAS REALLY GOOD THAT WE DISCOVERED 3 WEEKS AGO" and I'll be like "cool beans, let me just find it in my ipod... wait. oops, haven't added it yet, sorry man."

^Yes, I have conversations with my brain. Yes, in these conversations my brain talks in caps lock and I talk in lowercase letters.

So this is why I feel pretty darn near euphoric when I talk the time to get every single one of those songs on my ipod and can listen to them whenever I want.

If anyone's interested in the songs, you can ask in the comments and I'll happily oblige!
