Fun at Work

If you actually care about me and this blog at all, you'll have noticed that I haven't posted anything in about forever. I have just been super bogged down with life and school and work and the future and people in general. But I'm still alive! And I still have no time to write a whole big post so I will leave you with pictures of what I do when I'm bored at work.

Yes, they're sorted by colour
And so are these

Absolutely Smashing

I'm super pumped therefore I will make a blog post about it. The thing that is making me pumped is the fact that I made my school badminton team!

Badminton is one of my favourite sports because, for one, I'm actually good at it and also the fact that it is both mental and physical just rocks my socks. You have to be good at delivering the power shots and everything but you also have to play with the other person's mind like knowing their patterns and intentionally messing them up as well as just taking forever to serve to psych them out.

My official position is Senoir Girls Singles which means I get the court all to myself which is the way I like it. I'm not one for sharing the birdie with someone else. I like singles so much more than doubles because:
1) There is a lot more running around and that is one of my favourite things to do
2) You can only disappoint yourself, there's no partner to get annoyed at for missing a shot and vice versa you don't feel guilty for messing up the game for your teammate
3) You get all the glory (Only slightly kidding)
4) You can beat people by moving them around the court it doesn't have to be smash after smash to win

Of course, I am in no way saying I am The Badminton Queen. I'm good enough to make the team when only 4 people got cut and I can beat people that are better than me because I am sometimes determined enough to return every shot they make but I only play at school, not outside of it competitively like a whole whack of the people in tournaments do.

No matter what, I love the sport (and yes it's a sport we can get into this discussion later) and would rather lose horribly every time than never be able to play again.

The tournament that counts was on April 2! I trained hard, played hard and crashed hard when I got home, of course. I didn't move on, which is what I expected but I did attain my goal, which was to win more than I lost. I won all of 3 games and only lost 2! I think that puts me up to the quarter finals which is not too bad. I sure am feeling the soreness now!

That last paragraph had a plethora of exclamation marks, but I don't really care!
Definitely me.

Twilight Grocery Shopping

Last night I commented to my mother how we needed some items of food for me to properly pack my lunch the next day. She absentmindedly told me to get some money and walk to the grocery store for all of it. "This is totally normal. I help around the house with activities such as grocery shopping too." you may say. The thing is, this was at 9:30 at night. I don't think she was fully awake or else she would have made me wait until tomorrow afternoon but I didn't want to have a lame lunch so I grabbed my sister and we were out the door.

The grocery store is a short 7 minute walk from our house and we amused ourselves by being dressed in our pyjamas and singing along to my sister's ipod.

Please note that she was the one who had the earphones in. I was just singing from what I could get from her singing so I was usually a beat off or didn't know where we were since she was mumbling the melody due to LACK of MEMORIZATION SKILLZ. We were listening to the silly song Bellybutton from VeggieTales and when it got to the part where the caterpillar raps, I completely aced it. We were a sight to behold, skipping through a parking lot rapping about "umbilical equivocals".

Anyways, we got the groceries and went along our merry way, all the while probably getting weird looks from the adults who were also there because since when do two teenage girls go to the store at nighttime to buy healthy stuff like carrots. (Well, we also bought ice cream but that is beside the point.) No one else was talking but that didn't stop us from carrying on our conversation about how non-2012 a Chicken Soup for the Soul book cover looked.

And that was the extent of our close-to-midnight adventure. I think we should do it more often. It was the right time of night that everything was slightly silly and we weren't tired enough to be zombies.

NaNoWriMovember

Has your bookish friend suddenly gone into hibernation and whenever you see them there is a crazed glint in their eyes? Have some of your guy friends randomly decided they want to look similar to pedophiles regarding facial hair?

Well, if this is true and you have no idea why, then have I got an explanation for you.

Regarding your scraggly mustachioed fellow, he's probably participating in Movember! It's when people of the male gender do not shave their mustaches to raise money and awareness for prostate cancer.
I think it's a great idea because men are always happy to show off how much hair they can sprout from their face and it's a funny way to bring attention to something serious.

As for your bookish friend, they are probably participating in NaNoWriMo. It stands for National Novel Writing Month. This is when you begin writing a full-sized, 50 000+ word novel on the first of November and must complete it within the month. Then, with this hastily and sleep depriving novel finished, you can enter it into the official website and you just may win the contest!
It something that writers really enjoy because it really makes you focus on putting your thoughts onto paper and is a great way to be "discovered" as a new author since everyone is judged equally. (I hope.)

And that is what is up and popular this month.
